As a short introduction, my name is Jessica Grierson. I am currently working as an Operations Manager for Cause + Cure LTD.

Here lays seven short stories, which will be under the ‘Small City Monsters’ series. Each tale that is told, are based on true events that have occurred in the UK. They represent the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony and Lust.

This project was emotional for me, not as a writer, but as a person who has suffered through certain aspects of these crimes. I have used my own experiences and emotions as chronicles to filter the importance and intensity of feelings, that I hope these stories portray.

When I had decided I wanted to create my own villain/monster, i researched aimlessly throughout every horror/thriller franchise, book, movie and TV shows, to see what these characters had in common – and that’s when I realised. These fictional characters had human traits, their ‘monstrous’ characteristics were nothing but what humans had a fear of, or what humans were capable of.

I dove into horrendous news stories about murder, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, blackmail, stalking, paedophiles, perverts, kidnappers, domestic abusers, emotional and mental abusers and terrorists – and I knew I didn’t have to create a new monster, when the worst monsters alive are walking right along side us.
